The quarter-final FA Cup tie between Liverpool and Blackburn featured a lengthy stoppage in the early minutes of the match.
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel fell awkwardly and was down for over five minutes receiving treatment.
Skrtel, the Slovakian hardman, presumably does not go down for little or no reason, so the concern was pretty genuine for the Liverpool defender.
In the end, Skrtel was stretchered off the pitch, with his arms held aloft from the stretcher in an image that immediately went viral on social media.
Skrtel has been one of Liverpool’s key players this season and a mainstay in the back three that Brendan Rodgers has employed in recent months.
The Slovakian was replaced by Kolo Toure on 11 minutes played against Blackburn.
Liverpool’s next match is at Swansea next Monday as Brendan Rodgers’ side push for a top four finish.

Nothing broken or fractured for Skrtel. Taken off for concussion precautions which is the right thing to do.

Skrtel presumably wanted to play the rest of the game attached to a gurney but think he’s safer off the pitch.

When Martin Skrtel stays down for that long, you know it’s a serious injury. Hope he’s OK.

Paul McCartney-esque double thumbs aloft from Skrtel as he’s stretchered off. Good. Looked a bad fall.
