Marcelo Bielsa dumps Lazio
A big managerial story has blown up in Italy on Friday, as Lazio have been royally screwed over.
Earlier in the week it was announced by Lazio that Marcelo Bielsa had agreed to become their new coach.
The 60-year-old Argentine, whose most recent managerial position was in France with Marseille, was due to begin work on 9 July in Rome.
But now that’s not happening.
In a dramatic u-turn, Bielsa has dumped Lazio before one day in the job. After agreeing to the position, Bielsa has reneged.
Di Marzio breaks the news
The news has been broken by Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports that it’s currently unknown why Bielsa has backed out of the deal.
Moreover, Lazio is ready to sue the ex-Marseille manager.
In the meantime, Simone Inzaghi, who was a caretaker manager of Lazio last season, will be given the job.
While Di Marzio might not know exactly what changed Bielsa’s mind, speculation is rife on social media that the manager is set to be handed the Argentinian national team job instead.
There are also claims he’s been approached by the English FA!
