A bad week for Manchester United
Last Sunday, Manchester United produced a 2-1 win at West Brom.
Thanks to Stoke’s victory over the Baggies, even this win is not looking too good now and the two other results for Manchester United this week have been a disaster.
Manchester United’s poor week started at Bristol City as they were knocked out the Carabao Cup by a Championship side.
The EFL Cup holders had no reply when Bristol City scored with just seconds remaining.
Harry Maguire scores on 94 minutes for Leicester
It got worse for Manchester United at Leicester on Saturday as any remaining shred of hope that they can catch Manchester City was surely extinguished.
Manchester United dominated Leicester. Jose Mourinho even exclaimed that it was an “easy game” after the 2-2 draw.
And, Mourinho admitted that he had even told his players this at half-time.
Jamie Vardy had put Leicester in front. A double from Juan Mata looked to have given Manchester United the win.
But, even with 10-men, Leicester found an equaliser via Harry Maguire with the final touch of the game.
Manchester United pair spotted arguing
In the aftermath of the 2-2 draw, a number of Manchester United players have been blamed.
Chris Smalling was the prime player to be criticised. But, the likes of Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford all missed huge chances.
Jose Mourinho has also been slammed for bringing on Ander Herrera for Lingard. As well as for leaving Smalling on the pitch when clearly injured.
Many Manchester United fans also noticed how Ander Herrera refused to play at right back during Smalling’s injury in the final few minutes.
See the Tweets below suggesting an on-field argument between Herrera and Phil Jones…
I didn’t see it but apparently Jones was trying to get Herrera to play RB for the last 3 minutes and he refused to. How his star is falling if true. 🤦🏼♂️

If Herrera refused to cover smalling after jones asked him to because of smalling
Fucking fair play to jones that's what captains are supposed to do
Herrera you ought to be ashamed of yourself if it's true

That’s what G Nev said, that Jones was telling Herrera to fill in at RB and he’d refused. Instruction should have come from Jose, or Pogba as captain.. you can’t refuse!

Last 10 minutes Utd were clueless. Jones trying to sort out cover at CB with Smalling crocked and Herrera doesn’t want to go to RB so doesn’t happen! Ineffective leadership at a crucial time, players/manager to blame (tho as a City fan I’m not complaining).

Nobody is talking about Herrera not doing what he was asked by Phil Jones by the way. Not trying to scapegoat him, but it was clearly shown on TV. Jones told him to go to right-back and he said no.

Herrera has over ruled Phil Jones about a change of position shouting:
'Nobody with go faster stripes shaved into their head tells me what to do, pal.'

Interesting that Jones asked Herrera to fill in at right-back and he refused. Why?? That caused confusion in the final minutes. Herrera also had word with Lukaku near the end. Some clearly frustrated characters in this squad at present. #MUFC

Herrera deserves hammering as well. Refusing to drop into right back for 3 minutes while Jones tried to rebuild the back 4 in Smallings absence.

Smalling cannot play the last 5 minutes. It’s obvious. Why is he not shifted elsewhere? Why is Lindelof not CB? When Jones does make that shift, why did Herrera refuse to go at RB?

This is spot on. People talking about nobody organising and Jones was actually clearly trying to do that. Herrera was a disaster after he came on (which is Jose's fault for the substitution) and honestly it's hard to remember his last good game. https://t.co/DnY1ZfG5ab
