Man United’s Nemanja Matic helping Serbs
On Friday, the latest edition of the BBC World Football podcast has been released.
One of the three segments in the latest episode is dedicated to Man United and Serbian international star Nemanja Matic.
Matic joined Man United last summer from Chelsea. Indeed, many Chelsea fans still can’t believe the sold Matic, while the Blues have since signed the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater.
In the BBC podcast, Matic’s unsung work in helping Serbs from his hometown is revealed.
Man United fans learn that Matic has used his Premier League wages to re-build a football stadium and a church back home.
Nemanja Matic supports Liverpool
Yet, perhaps the biggest revelation made in the BBC podcast is that Nemanja Matic is actually a Liverpool fan.
The following statement was made by a friend of Matic to the BBC:
Well I can say in my name that when he went (for) the first time to Benfica, he told me he is a fan of Liverpool.
I’m also a fan of Liverpool. I was hoping to see him in the red shirt, but no matter Chelsea, Manchester, we cheer for his teams.

Man United beat Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly this week.
Alexis Sanchez broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when he got on the end of Matteo Darmian’s cross to fire home.
Sanchez turned creator nine minutes later, as Alexis headed a pass from Juan Mata into the path of Ander Herrera. The Spaniard made no mistake in front of goal.
Real Madrid halved the deficit in first-half stoppage time when French forward Karim Benzema converted a cross from Theo Hernandez.
