Sunday Supplement: Premier League Team of the Year
On Sky Sports’ Sunday Supplement show this weekend, journalist picked their Premier League team of the year.
Of course, there are still eight weeks to go in the league season.
But the finishing line is certainly in sight. Indeed, Man City will win the Premier League title if they beat Man United next weekend in the derby at Old Trafford.
Man City stars dominate
When it came to picking the XI, six Manchester City players made the team.
Yet, some of the selections raised an eyebrow as there was no room for either Ederson or Nicolas Otamendi at the back.
The Sky Blues number one made way for Man United’s David De Gea, while Otamendi was left out the XI while John Stones was somehow picked above the Argentine.
Kyle waler was picked in the right-back slot.
Working off a 4-3-3 formation, the complete midfield was made up of Pep Guardiola’s men.
Fernandinho (ahead of Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante), Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva were all selected in the middle of the park. And further forward Leroy Sane was picked in a 3-pronged attack.
There was no room for Raheem Sterling, despite his 20+ gaols in all competitions this season.
Harry Kane & Mohamed Salah
Looking around the rest of the team, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah were both picked in the forward-line.
Both Tottenham and Liverpool also had one other player apiece in the XI.
For Spurs, centre-half Jan Vertonghen made the cut, while Andrew Robertson, despite missing large chunks of the season, was given the nod at left-back.
