Why Mamadou Sakho didn’t play for Crystal Palace vs Everton

Everton 3 – Crystal Palace 1

Crystal Palace were big losers in the Premier League on Saturday at Everton.

For the first time since Palace were promoted back into the English top flight, they Eagles lost to Everton.

The goals all arrived in the second half, as Palace lost their concentration at the start of the second half.

Everton’s record signing Gylfi Sigurdsson broke the deadlock, before Oumar Niasse doubled the Toffees’ advantage.

Tom Davies killed the match as a contest scoring Everton’s third, before Luka Milivojevic bagged a consolation penalty for the south Londoners.

Where was Mamadou Sakho?

Palace fans turning up at Goodison Park on Saturday were expected to see Mamadou Sakho in the Eagles XI.

Yet, when the team sheets came out for the Everton game not only wasn’t Sakho in the starting XI, he wasn’t even in the squad.

Sakho, who cost Palace 30 million pounds when he joined from Liverpool last summer, has been sidelined in recent weeks with an injury.

Yet, there were no suggestions before Saturday’s match that he’d miss the game.

But it seems obvious that the French defender has suffered a fresh injury setback.

UPDATE: Mamadou Sakho limped out of training on the eve of the game with a calf issue.

Palace fans reacted badly to Mamadou Sakho’s no-show in the defeat.
