Cristiano Ronaldo underwear & the 2018 Champions League final

German reporter Raphael Honigstein recently posted an interview with Liverpool’s Dutch international midfielder Gini Wijnaldum in the Atheltic.

One of the highlights of the interview was a story from the 2018 Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Wijnaldum told the following tale:

We saw (Jurgen Klopp) was wearing the boxer shorts of Cristiano Ronaldo.

He did the meeting with his shirt stuffed inside his ‘CR7’ boxers. The whole changing room was on the floor laughing their heads off.

That really broke the ice. Usually in those situations, everyone is serious and concentrated. But he was relaxed and made this joke.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp reveals his side of the story

This week, German paper Bild have spoken to the Liverpool manager about the Cristiano Ronaldo underwear story.

Klopp has confirmed that he still has the clothing, while revealing how the purchase came about:

That’s true…some years ago when I was buying underpants, I simply grabbed the Ronaldo shelf.

I still have them, but I have not worn them since the finals.

During the final I deliberately wore it and during the session deliberately pulled them very far up to under the nipples. That was funny, looked funny.

Real Madrid 3 – Liverpool 1

Of course, Real Madrid went on to beat Liverpool on that occasion.

Liverpool’s game turned when Sergio Ramos injured Mohamed Salah, and the Egyptian was forced out of the match.

Karim Benzema opened for Los Blancos early in the second-half, before Sadio Mane levelled.

Gareth Bale then stole the headlines with a brace, including one of the greatest ever goals in a major final.
