Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold apologies after Man United

Man United 2 – Liverpool 1

Manchester United are now in the box seat to finish second in the Premier League this season.

The Red Devils beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday to open up a five point gap between the teams.

Liverpool were 2-down at the break as Marcus Rashford stole the show.

Rashford, on his first start since Boxing Day, broke the deadlock with a fabulous solo effort from a Romelu Lukaku flick on.

The England international was on hand to slam home a second before the interval after more good work from Lukaku in the build up.

In the second half Liverpool put in a far more spirited performance, and they got on the board when Eric Bailly put a cross in his own net.

But Liverpool couldn’t find the leveller as United moved five points clear for the Reds.

Trent Alexander-Arnold apologies after Man United

Both Man United goals came down the Liverpool right hand side.

Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold was shown up for both United goals.

On Saturday night Alexander-Arnold turned to social media to apologise to Liverpool’s fans for his mistakes against United. The 19-year-old defender wrote:

I just want to apologise to all the fans!

The support today was amazing and our performance was not good enough to get the result we wanted. We will learn from this and come back stronger. YNWA

Will Alexander-Arnold now face a spell on the sidelines?

Jurgen Klopp has options for that position in the final months of the season.

Joe Gomez has been used throughout the year, while Nathaniel Clyne is now available for selection after his long injury.
