Southgate not the man for Barton
England beat Scotland – Southgate for long-term England job?
England produced one of their best performances in a long time to beat Scotland 3-0 at Wembley this evening.
Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge and Gary Cahill got the goals for the Three Lions as they maintained their position at the top of their World Cup qualifying group.
Having won his first game against Malta and then drawn away in Slovenia, England produced their best game under Gareth Southgate tonight as they comfortably beat the Scots.
Word around St George’s Park now is that Southgate is set to be offered the England job on a long-term basis beyond his four-game interim remit.
Southgate not experienced enough for Joey Barton
So, does Southgate now deserve a full crack at the whip after 2 wins from 3?
Not for Joey Barton he doesn’t.
The outspoken Rangers midfielder had a special interest in tonight’s game, given that he’s an Englishman playing in Scotland, and he was a keen observer watching from home.
As was to be expected, Barton took to Twitter to dispel some pearls of wisdom during the game, one of which was his belief that Southgate isn’t qualified for the job.
Regardless of the result, Southgate shouldn't be England manager. Lovely guy. But not experienced enough. Got to get an elite level coach.
