Joe Gomez sends message to Liverpool fans after red card v Sevilla

Liverpool 2 – Sevilla 2

A helter skelter match between Liverpool and Sevilla ended in a result the Spanish side will be much happier with.

The Merseyside giants went behind after just five minutes to a Wissam Ben Yedder opener.

Liverpool responded in the first half to go ahead thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

Firmino missed a penalty three minutes before half time and this was in the end costly for Liverpool.

Joaquin Correa equalised and Sevilla went oh so close to winning the match at Anfield with Luis Muriel spurning a great opportunity late on.

Joe Gomez sent off late on

Liverpool’s night also took a turn for the worse in the final seconds of the Sevilla match as Joe Gomez was sent off.

Gomez saw red for two bookable offences, which means he will miss Liverpool’s next Champions League game.

Liverpool face Spartak Moscow in Russia in late September.

With Nathaniel Clyne out, Jurgen Klopp appears to be rotating his two young right backs: Trent Alexander-Arnold and Gomez.

Gomez posts message to Liverpool fans on Instagram

After the draw with Sevilla, Gomez posted a message to Liverpool fans on Instagram.

Gomez wrote: “Atmosphere inside Anfield amazing tonight. Sorry if I let the lads down with the second yellow late on… something to learn from personally. Thanks for your support…YNWA 🔴”.

As a 20-year-old defender simply learning his trade, this message whilst rather bland is admirable from Joe Gomez.

It was already likely that Trent Alexander-Arnold would play for Liverpool against Burnley on Saturday.

Gomez now also looks set to play at Leicester away and Newcastle away, with Alexander-Arnold used at Spartak Moscow in September.
