Man United beat Liverpool 2-1
Gameweek 30 of the Premier League started with Man United beat Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Marcus Rashford stole the headlines with a double against Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Liverpool were far better in the second period. Eric Bailly’s own goal from a Sadio Mane cross put Liverpool on the board.
But Man United held on to win and move five points clear of the Reds.
Gary Neville highlights Liverpool’s positives
After the game, Gary Neville recorded his latest podcast for Sky Sports.
Reflecting on Man United’s win, the former United right-back put the three points in the context of the win over Crystal Palace, while Jose Mourinho has big games coming up against Sevilla and Brighton.
But Nevillle also spent time talking about Liverpool’s positives from the match. He said:
You can never say it’s acceptable to lose to Manchester United, you can never say it’s a good feeling, but they will probably have as good a feeling as you could have in losing a game against Manchester United.
They will be disappointed, as will Jurgen Klopp, but they will point to those two goals and say, ‘Well they didn’t cut us open, they didn’t destroy us. It was two really poor goals, and we knocked at the door and should have had two penalties’. I’m sure Jurgen Klopp will say that.
While Liverpool lost, they are still well placed to finish to the season in the top four.
With the new Champions League rules meaning all four Premier League sides immediately go into the group phase, does it really matter who finishes second, or third?
