Benjamin Mendy to Man City

Benjamin Mendy attracts hate for trolling Brighton’s Lewis Dunk

Brighton 0 – Man City 2

It was a game few expected Brighton to win, and they didn’t.

Chris Hughton saw his side fall to a 2-nil home defeat to Man City on Saturday night in round one of the new Premier League season, but there were plenty of green shoots of hope for the Seagulls.

Most importantly, they looked competitive for much of the match. It was goalless at the break, City took the lead through Sergio Aguero, and Brighton were sunk by a Lewis Dunk own goal.

Troll Benjamin Mendy

Man City, of course, spent huge sums of money again this summer.

Kyle Walker and Danilo both played against Brighton, while Benjamin Mendy watched the game from the sidelines. He’s still regaining his fitness after an injury.

Following Dunk’s own goal, Mendy took to social media.

He trolled the Brighton centre-half as follows:

After the match, Mendy’s tweet was brought up on BT Sport, and Steven Gerrard hit back. The former Liverpool star said:

I don’t like to see that there’s no need for it.

There’s going to be a time in the season when Mendy makes a mistake and he will be wide open for criticism himself.

Social media backlash

Mendy also received hate on social media for his tweet.

But, rather than dodge the issue, the Man City defender claimed he was just making a joke.
