West Ham 3 – Southampton 0
Are West Ham going to stay in the Premier League?
The Hammers laid down a marker on Saturday with a hugely important home win over Southampton.
Southampton were appalling in the first half at the London Stadium, and the Irons took full advantage.
Inter Milan loanee Joao Mario opened the scoring, before Marko Arnautovic bagged a brace.
The win lifted West Ham to 14th, with 33 points from 31 games. The Hammers are five points clear of Southampton and the bottom three.
Marko Arnautovic trolled Southampton’s Mark Hughes
It’s obvious that there’s no love lost between Marko Arnautovic and Southampton’s new manager Mark Hughes.
Hughes was in charge of the Austrian forward at Stoke City.
The pair are known to have not got on at the Bet365 Stadium, and earlier this season Hughes got angry with Arnautovic when West Ham won at Stoke.
The Hammers won 3-0 at Stoke, and as West Ham’s record signing trudged off the pitch, Mark Hughes unleashed a tirade of abuse at the former Stoke forward.
Indeed, Hughes was clearly seen calling Arnautovic a “f***er”.
So what happened when Arnautovic scored against Southampton?
He turned towards the Saints bench to flash the ‘Hammers’ sign at Hughes.
