Sanchez criticized for taking penalty over Cazorla

Alexis Sanchez is having a tough time of it so far this season.

The Chilean is being deployed as a centre forward by Arsene Wenger in Olivier Giroud’s absence, and Sanchez has been finding it tough.

Standing at 5’6, Sanchez is not a conventional central striker, and he’s at his most dangerous coming in from wide; indeed this is where he’s played most of his career, be it at Barcelona, Chile or Arsenal.

But with Wenger still feeling Giroud needs more post-Euro 2016 rest time, Sanchez has been forced to adapt to the central role.

Struggling for goals, he decided to take the penalty Arsenal were awarded at Hull today, much to the surprise of Arsenal fans, who were baffled as to why regular penalty taker Santi Cazorla didn’t take it.

It backfired on Sanchez, who saw his tame penalty saved, leaving Gooners fuming with his selfishness.

Sets unwanted record

And that selfishness has now earned him an unwanted place in the Arsenal record books.

By missing his penalty at Hull today, Sanchez became the only Arsenal player to miss his first two penalties at the club.

Indeed, the fact that this was only his second ever penalty for Arsenal tells you how seldom he takes spot kicks, which makes it all the more baffling as to why he suddenly decided to today.
