R.I.P Freddy Shepherd
On Tuesday afternoon it was confirmed that Newcastle legend Freddy Shepherd has passed away.
Shepherd, who was the Newcastle chairman through the club’s heady days at the start of the Premier League, was 76-years-old when he died.
Fans consider Shepherd one of the key reasons for their swashbuckling, excited reputation which they gained under the likes of Kevin Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson.
He was in charge at St James’ Park from 1997 to 2007.
Alan Shearer leads the tributes
During his time at the club, Shepherd signed Alan Shearer for 15 million pounds from Blackburn.
Newcastle legend Shearer lead the tributes on social media, with the England icon thanking his “great friend… for bringing me home”.
Many other Newcastle fans also took to social media to express their sadness at the news.
