Manchester City Burton

Social media reacts as Manchester City score nine against Burton

Man City make it a cricket score

Manchester City made absolutely sure that there would be no giant-killing at the Etihad when they faced Burton in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

The Cityzens are looking to defend the trophy which they won last season when beating Arsenal 3-0.

They were given the fortunate draw in the semi-final against League One side Burton but they still needed to do their job.

While the lower-league side were hoping for some more cup magic, there would be none of that this evening.

Pep Guardiola’s side score 8

That is because Pep Guardiola’s side remained professional and put both legs to bed without even playing the second one.

Kevin De Bruyne scored the first goal, much to the delight of fans who haven’t seen much of him over the past few months.

Gabriel Jesus, who had been given a chance up front due to Sergio Aguero missing out due to illness, scored the second goal with his first headed goal in English football.

It only took him four minutes to score again and score a second header in English football!

Zinchenko then scored three minutes later from a cross-cum-shot.

That saw City go in at the break four goals up and the game already looked over.

However, the sky blues were not done with their opponents yet.

Jesus completed his hat-trick just before the hour mark before Phil Foden scored five minutes later.

Jesus then got his fourth of the game a mere three minutes later.

Kyle Walker then made it 8-0, scoring a rare goal in the 70th minute.

Finally, Riyad Mahrez rounded out the scoring in the 84th minute, handing City a 9-0 lead going into the second leg.

Safe to say, while Burton fans didn’t find it too funny, the internet did.
