Newcastle v Liverpool
Newcastle v Liverpool is one of the most storied fixtures of the Premier League era.
The famous 4-3s at Anfield remain some of the greatest games ever seen in England’s top flight.
And, there remains expectation whenever Newcastle and Liverpool meet.
Sunday’s match has the added spice of Rafa Benitez facing his old club on home turf.
Benitez famously won the Champions League with Liverpool and will surely be awarded a fine reception from the travelling Kop.
The Spaniard’s big advantage going into this game is that Newcastle have had a full week to prepare.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have travelled to and from Moscow and the form of Jurgen Klopp’s side remains patchy.
Alberto Moreno’s Sunday interview
In the article, the Spanish left-back was pressed about the state of Liverpool’s defence.
The standard narrative when discussing Jurgen Klopp’s backline is that they make too many silly mistakes. And those mistakes are likely to cost Liverpool dearly in the long run.
Moreno seemed to subscribe to the notion that Liverpool’s back four are error prone, however he seemed to call out Liverpool’s midfielders in the process:
We know ourselves we have to improve defensively. As professionals we are aware we have been conceding too many bad goals.
But what I would say as a defender is that it is a team game, football is about 11 players attacking together and they have to defend together as well. It would be a pretty tough job if all the responsibility for defending fell on the four guys in the back line and the goalkeeper.
The game is about working together as a team and as a block, so to attach blame only to the defenders is a little unfair.
How will Jordan Henderson and Emre Can react to that opinion?
