As per a report from reliable BBC journalist Simon Stone this evening, Manchester United are not currently making moves towards signing Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic.
United’s chase of Croatian winger Perisic was one of the talking points of last summer’s transfer window, with Jose Mourinho having identified the Croatian as the ideal addition to his squad ahead of last season.
The Red Devils reportedly made offers of 40 and 45 million Euro for the 29-year-old, though Inter proved a tough nut to crack, demanding a minimum of 55 million Euro for the former Wolfsburg man.
Perisic subsequently went on to sign a new contract at the San Siro, though his sensational performances in helping Croatia to the World Cup final this summer have since seen United, along with a number of other top clubs, linked with fresh bids for the explosive wide-man.
Speaking in an interview with RT following Croatia’s World Cup semi-final victory over England last month, Jose Mourinho sparked rumours of the possibility of renewed interest on behalf of the Red Devils in Perisic’s services, when he gushed:
‘Perisic is the kind of winger that is different to the others. Normally you look at wingers and they are just fast and creative. But he is also physical, very physical, fantastic in the air.’
‘If I was to change club…’
And Perisic himself did little to dampen rumours that he could yet be on the move before the close of the transfer window this month during an interview with Sportske novosti earlier this week, when he admitted that, although he is happy in Milan, he would consider changing club if the right type of offer was to arrive, adding that ‘anything is possible in football’:
‘Last year I signed new five-year deal with Inter, I enjoy great status at the club.’
‘It is true Inter has not had the results it should have since 2010, there were some problems, bad decisions, but somehow I feel we are on the right way to return to old glory.’
‘I heard some clubs want me but they have to talk to my club and only after that could I join the negotiations and decide.’
‘If I was to change club, it could only be to a top league and top club.’
‘Only God knows what will happen in future, I am happy at Inter but we all know anything is possible in football.’
But, despite the Croat’s hint at a possible transfer, Simon Stone of BBC Sport, regarded as on the money when it comes to Manchester United news, has this evening revealed that Manchester United are not currently pursuing a deal for Perisic:
