Barcelona & Liverpool
It’s still over two months before the January transfer window opens. However, there are non-stop reports out of Spain linking Barcelona with Liverpool’s prized assets.
The never-ending story surrounds Philippe Coutinho.
Coutinho, who scored in his fourth straight away match for Liverpool at Maribor in the Champions League, was the subject of an intense Barcelona chase in the summer.
Most expect Barcelona to try and sign Coutinho again in the new year. That’s after the player has made it clear he’d be open to moving from Anfield to the Camp Nou.
However, on Wednesday, there’s a new rumour doing the rounds claiming the Catalans want to sign one of Liverpool’s best young stars.
Catalans open Ben Woodburn talks
Spanish news outlet Don Balon have a terrible reputation for getting transfer news correct.
Indeed, many accuse Don Balon of continuously peddling fake news. However, it’s worth remembering that even a broken clock is right twice a day.
With that said, Don Balon announce that Barcelona are tracking 18-year-old Ben Woodburn, who became a household name as Wales tried to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
In a big statement, it’s claimed Barcelona have already approached Woodburn’s representatives about a possible Spanish switch. But there are reasons to question whether a deal will happen, as Liverpool are determined to hang on to the player who made his first-team debut last season at age 17.
In fact, earlier this week reports circled that Liverpool want to lock Woodburn down to a new deal. As reported by the Liverpool Echo:
Ben Woodburn is in line for an improved contract at Liverpool.
Though Woodburn has made just one League Cup appearance this season, the club are keen to reflect his development with a new, improved contract, which is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks.
