The best player in the air this season in the Premier League is a true surprise

Following on from this weekends round of Premier League fixtures, EA Sports, the lead partner of the Premier League, have provided some seriously surprising data.

This is in regards to which player was most successful in the air over the weekend, it isn’t who you may initially think of.

As you will see below, it is in fact the Bournemouth’s Simon Francis who led the line in terms of aerial duels won this weekend!

As you will from the data table above, Simon Francis challenged for 6 more headers than any other Premier League player and in doing so, he successfully won the ball 80% of the time, which equates to 16/20 successful aerial duels.

As well as this, as you will see from the data table below, the Bournemouth defenders 16 successful aerial duels was the highest amount any player has managed to complete in a single game week this season, making the achievement even more impressive.

Only West Ham striker Andy Carroll came close in game week 4 when he managed to complete 14 of his aerial duels, still 2 less than Simon Francis for Bournemouth at Newcastle.

There are some seriously impressive statistics from Simon Francis, one of the least heralded names in the Premier League.

After their early struggles, Bournemouth are putting a fine run together in the Premier League.

Whilst they have lost to Chelsea and Spurs recently, Eddie Howe’s side beat Stoke and Newcastle and look like the side that did so well last season.
