Sheffield United vs Norwich Prediction: Sheffield United 1-1 Norwich
Sheffield United are unbeaten in their last five in all competitions. Despite being eighth in the table, the Blades are still very much in the hunt for a place in Europe next season.
Premier League survival still looks a very long way off for Norwich, but recent wins against Leicester and Spurs will give them confidence heading into their final 10 league matches.
Realistically, the Canaries will need a result on Saturday if they are to keep their slim survival hopes alive.
Sheffield United vs Norwich: Who will win?
Norwich have failed to win any of their last seven away matches in the Premier League. Unsurprisingly, Sheffield United are 13/20 favourites to win the match while a Norwich win is priced at 19/4. The draw can be backed at 11/4.
10 of Sheffield United’s last 11 league matches have featured at least three goals. Bet on over 2.5 goals at 11/10.
Both teams have scored in each of the last four meetings between the two sides. Bet on both teams to score at 19/20.
Teemu Pukki will start up front for the visitors after being rested in midweek. Pukki is 6/1 to open the scoring and 2/1 to score anytime.
Sheffield United vs Norwich Premier League match preview
Sheffield United host bottom side Norwich at Bramall Lane on Saturday.
Both sides were in midweek FA Cup action. Norwich progressed to the quarter-finals with a 3-2 penalty shootout win against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
After going behind early on, Josip Drmic equalised for Norwich to send the match to extra time, and then a penalty shootout after the teams could not be separated after 120 minutes.
Tim Krul was the hero of the shootout, which Norwich won 3-2. Kenny McClean missed his spot-kick but Adam Idah, Marco Stiepermann and Todd Cantwell converted theirs.
Norwich will face Manchester United at home in the next round. In truth, an extended cup run is probably not what Daniel Farke’s side need at the moment.
Perhaps more importantly, Norwich pulled off a surprise 1-0 home win over Leicester in their last league match. Jamal Lewis scored the only goal of the game with a powerful low drive from the edge of the area.
Norwich have the worst away record in the Premier League this season, with one win in 14 matches. They have also scored the fewest number of goals on the road (6).
Sheffield United also qualified for the last eight of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win at Reading after extra time. David McGoldrick opened the scoring before Reading equalised from the penalty spot before half-time. The match went to extra time where club captain Billy Sharp scored the winner. The Blades have been drawn at home to Arsenal in the next round.
Chris Wilder’s side were not in Premier League action last weekend. Their match against Aston Villa was postponed due to Villa’s involvement in the Carbao Cup final. Consequently, Sheffield United have a game in hand over many of the sides around them. Sheffield United have the fourth-best defensive record at home, conceding 13 goals in 14 matches.
These two sides have met 5 times in the Premier League. Sheffield United have won twice while Norwich have won on three occasions. They have not yet played out a draw in the competition. Sheffield United came from behind to win 2-1 at Carrow Road in the reverse fixture in December. Alexander Tettey gave Norwich the lead before second-half goals from Stevens and George Baldock won the game for the Blades.
Sheffield United team news vs Norwich
Enda Stevens and John Fleck were not risked on Tuesday but both will be fit enough to start on Saturday.
Oliver Norwood was rested entirely in midweek and should return to the starting eleven.
Sander Berge looks to be the favourite to partner Fleck and Norwood in midfield but he’ll face competition from John Lundstram.
David McGoldrick will be hoping for another start alongside Lys Mousett after scoring his first goal of the season at Reading. Oli McBurnie and Billy Sharp are alternate attacking options for Chris Wilder.
Norwich team news vs Sheffield United
Emiliano Buendia is a major doubt after being forced off with a muscle injury in Wednesday’s FA Cup tie.
Defenders Timm Klose, Sam Byram and Christoph Zimmermann are all sidelined. Ben Godfrey and Grant Hanley should continue as the centre-back pairing.
Teemu Pukki and Ondrej Duda were unused substitutes on Wednesday and should return to the starting line-up. Josip Drmic, Tom Trybull and Mario Vrancic could all make way after starting against Spurs.
Daniel Farke confirmed that Ralf Fahrmann’s loan spell will be cut short imminently. The 31-year-old goalkeeper has made just one league appearance for the Canaries.
Onel Hernandez is out with a serious knee injury.
