Sheffield United vs Fylde: Match preview

Sheffield United are set to play their first FA Cup outing of the season on Sunday the 5th of January.

The Blades enter the competition in the 3rd round and will take on National League side Fylde at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United have lifted the FA Cup four times in their history, however, they haven’t lifted the trophy for nearly a hundred years, last winning it in 1925.

Fylde, on the other hand, haven’t come close to an FA Cup final.

Indeed, this season’s 3rd round qualification is the furthest they have ever gone in the competition.

To make it this far in the FA Cup Fylde have seen off Peterborough Sports by six goals to one in the fourth qualifying round, Nantwich Town by one goal to nil the 1st round and Kingstonian by two goals to nil in the previous round.

Sheffield United are in form

Sheffield United should be heading into their FA Cup clash oozing confidence.

The Yorkshire outfit have had a sensational start to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

Despite only clinching promotion back to the English top-flight last season, Sheffield United look as though they have been a Premier League regular for years.

As well as playing some attractive football, Chris Wilder has ensured Sheffield United boast one of the best defences in the Premier League this term.

But while Sheffield United are flying high in the league, Fylde are struggling for form in the National League and currently find themselves in the midst of a relegation battle.

Given the two sides’ very contrasting positions in English football, it is hard to see anything over than a Sheffield United win from this tie. Although, it is the FA Cup and anything can happen.

Sunday’s tie will also be the first time these two sides have ever faced off in a competitive clash.
