Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has this afternoon discussed the prospect of Dean Henderson returning to Bramall Lane from parent club Manchester United.
Henderson, a 22-year-old shot-stopper, came up through the youth ranks of United, after joining the club from Carlisle in 2011.
However, after struggling to carve out any sort of place for himself in the first-team plans of the Red Devils, the English U21-international has since been sent out on a series of loans over the last couple of campaigns.
And, on the back of being named in the League One Team of the Year last summer following an impressive spell with Shrewsbury, Henderson’s performances in the Championship with Sheffield United this past season have seen the youngster continue to showcase his immense potential.
Henderson started all 46 of the Blades’ league outings, keeping 21 clean sheets, and playing a crucial role in the superb season enjoyed by Chris Wilder’s men.
United’s 2-0 win over Ipswich at the end of last month saw them secure 2nd-place in the Championship table, and a spot in the Premier League for next season.

‘Want to be here’
Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio Sheffield late last month on the back of United securing their return to English football’s top-tier, Henderson admitted that, although he has his sights firmly set on the no.1 spot at Old Trafford down the line, for the time being, the gifted shot-stopper wants nothing more than to experience Premier League football in the colours of the Blades:
‘Listen, I want to be here. I want to play Premier League football at Bramall Lane. Eventually, I want to be Man Utd’s number one and England’s number one.’
‘If Dean signs we’ll be delighted’
And, if Chris Wilder gets his way, then a return to Bramall Lane appears to be very much on the cards for Henderson.
Speaking to the Press Association earlier today, the Sheffield United boss confirmed that negotiations between the Blades’ board and Manchester United are ongoing, with Wilder hopeful of a deal being agreed over the coming months:
‘We’re working our way through it.’
‘We’ve been in discussions with Manchester United and I think they see it as a positive that he gets a year of Premier League football under his belt.’
‘I know Dean definitely wants to stay and our supporters absolutely adore him.’
‘We’ve got a good relationship with Manchester United and if Dean signs we’ll be delighted.’
‘He’s been outstanding since he’s been at the club. He had a fantastic loan period at Shrewsbury, he’s kicked on and has a wonderful future ahead of him.’
