Shaqiri & Lovren: Liverpool injury update before Bayern Munich

Liverpool vs Bayern Munich

Liverpool are set to host Bayern Munich on Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League tie.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will visit Munich on March 13th for the return leg.

Liverpool head into the game having lost just once in the league this season.

They have also had this past weekend off as they have already been knocked out of the FA Cup.

As for Bayern Munich, they played and beat Augsburg 3-2 on Friday evening.

Liverpool injury update

Despite Liverpool having a weekend’s more rest than Bayern, they do still have some injury concerns.

With Virgil van Dijk suspended for the game and Joe Gomez a long term absentee, Jurgen Klopp only has Joel Matip as a fit centre-back.

Dejan Lovren has not played since January due to injury but he could feature on Tuesday.

Klopp gave this update on Lovren and Xherdan Shaqiri heading into the Munich tie:

“You want the complete line up? Dejan we have to see. Yesterday he had a clearing session. We’ll see how he reacted. Shaq trained and looked good.”

If Lovren is not passed fit, Klopp could look to either Fabinho or Jordan Henderson to fill in at centre-back.

On the prospect of partnering Matip vs Bayern, Henderson stated:

“I’ll always be ready to play and give 100% for the team wherever I’m asked to play.”
