More reports have emerged surrounding the game between Argentina and Ecuador in which Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick with controversy.
The reports emerged from Ecuador and have revealed that up to five first-team stars were out drinking and partying the night before the game.
Former West Ham and Everton forward Enner Valencia, who is one of their better players, was one of those who was reportedly out.
Joao Plata, Gabriel Cortez, Jefferson Orejuela and Robert Arboleda are reportedly the others players who were found out.
The Ecuadorian football federation has since commented on the reports and has confirmed they have sanctioned the five players.
Unfortunately for them, that punishment is that they are not going to be in contention for selection indefinitely.
“The players that are involved have been separated from any Call for Selection indefinitely,” said Carlos Villacís, president of the FEF.
This will open up all sorts of questions about the game which had already received so much coverage.
That is because it was a must-win game for Argentina if they were to qualify for the @018 World Cup.
Lionel Messi stepped up to the plate and scored a hat-trick to seal their passage after a very bumpy qualification season.
Now, this news threatens to undermine the performance of both Messi and the Argentine national team.
