Sevilla boss labels Man United ‘biggest team in the world’ ahead of semi-final clash

Man United vs Sevilla

The Europa League semi-finals are set to kick-off this coming Sunday.

Manchester United booked their spot in the last-four with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Danish outfit Copenhagen.

The Red Devils were taken to extra-time in the clash, before a Bruno Fernandes penalty, won by Anthony Martial, eventually decided things..

United then learned their semi-final opponents on Tuesday evening, when Wolves and Europa League specialists Sevilla faced off.

Despite Wolves having given it their all, it would be Sevilla who emerged victorious inside 90 minutes.

United will now face Sevilla on Sunday, before the second semi-final clash, between Inter Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk, takes place a day later.

Sevilla boss praises Man United

As already mentioned, Sevilla have a superb record in the Europa League/UEFA Cup, and have actually won it more times than any other side in history (5).

The La Liga outfit also historically fare pretty well against English sides.

Their latest victims from the Premier League were, of course, Wolves. But Sevilla have also seen off Middlesbrough and Liverpool in previous Europa League finals.

Despite his side’s pedigree in the competition, though, Julen Lopetegui certainly isn’t taking Man United lightly.

In fact, speaking ahead of Sevilla’s upcoming meeting with the Red Devils, the Spanish tactician even went as far as to label United ‘the biggest team in the world’:

“We are going to play against Manchester United in the next match – they’re the biggest team in the world but we’re going to be prepared for them.

“We’re focused on the next game, against a top, historic side, one of the best in the history of the sport who are in great form.

“We will give our best as we always do. To play against them will be really tough, but we’ll go into it believing we can beat them.”
