Spurs fans got excited

Tottenham fans got excited on Tuesday afternoon as rumours spread on social media the starlet Marcus Edwards could be involved for the senior side in their Champions League match away at Bayer Leverkusen.

The rumours were sparked after Edwards was left out of the Spurs U19 side for their UEFA Youth League match against their German counterparts.

As soon as Edwards’ name wasn’t included for the U19s, hopes were raised that the teenager could be involved later in the evening.

But that’s not the case.

Marcus Edwards is injured

Rather than being a surprise selection for the Spurs first team, Marcus Edwards is in fact injured.

It’s unclear how the youngster hurt himself after he was involved in the senior squad’s training session on Monday.

Who is Marcus Edwards?

Over the past few years, Edwards has been hyped as the best English player of his age group and a contract stand off last season appeared to suggest that the player and his entourage felt the same.

In July, Edwards signed a new contract at Spurs, that was reportedly worth more than regular youngsters get at White Hart Lane and featured a clause guaranteeing first team opportunities in 2016/2017.

Moreover, Mauricio Pochettino has also compared the 17-year-old to Leo Messi.
