Former AC Milan and Italy striker Daniele Massaro has today revealed his opinion that Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi will soon replace Karim Benzema at Real Madrid.
Icardi, who recently earned a recall to the Argentine national team following years of exile, has been one of the most consistent performers in the Italian top-flight for several seasons now.
Since arriving at the San Siro from Sampdoria in 2013, the South American has notched a remarkable 84 goals in 138 league outings for the Nerazzurri, including 24 goals last season and 13 in 13 to start the current campaign.
Unsurprisingly, Icardi’s stellar form for Inter has led to links with some of Europe’s top clubs, with Barcelona and PSG having been touted as potential destinations for the 24-year-old on multiple occasions in the past.
Premier League champions Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the South American over the last few weeks, with El Gol Digital claiming that the Blues are readying a massive 100 million Euro offer for his services.
However, according to Daniele Massaro, who lined out for Inter’s fierce inner-city rivals AC Milan from 1986-1995, Icardi will in fact be plying his trade for European champions Real Madrid next season.
Speaking in an interview with Premium Sport, Massaro revealed:
‘I can tell you that, next year, Icardi will be at Real Madrid in [Karim] Benzema’s place.’
Los Blancos are rumoured to be in the market for attacking reinforcements, with Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo having notched just 2 goals between them in La Liga so far this season.
