Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has this afternoon reserved special praise for one of the stars of his most direct rivals, Real Madrid.
28-year-old Busquets has long been regarded as one of the finest midfielders in world football, with an ever-improving ability to win the ball back from opposing teams having been added to his unquestionable brilliance in possession.
Speaking in an interview in Qatar this afternoon, the deep-lying midfielder was asked for his opinion on who can currently be considered as the world’s finest in his position, to which he responded:
‘There are a lot of great midfielders in the world, with each having their own unique style’, as per Marca.
‘No two of the best are the same, but in my position I would mention Casemiro, who is doing very well.’
‘Bruno has had a great year at Villarreal while N’Golo Kante has been excellent with Nemanja Matic at Chelsea, as has Ander Herrera.’
With so much publicity currently surrounding Barca’s La Masia youth setup, the experienced Spanish international was also questioned on what it takes for a young footballer to make it in today’s game:
‘The requirements are incredibly high at this level, and it depends on many factors.’
“‘It depends on if players get opportunities, if they work hard, and if they are of the required level.’
‘All of the factors have to come together, I hope more players from La Masia will succeed.’
