Sergio Aguero surpasses Thierry Henry & Alan Shearer in PL record books during Man City’s win over Villa

Manchester City’s demolition of Aston Villa this evening saw Sergio Aguero etch his name further into the history books of the Premier League.

City run riot

Pep Guardiola’s champions visited Villa Park a short time ago, for their latest league outing.

The Citizens headed into proceedings having looked back to their brilliant best of late, on the back of 8 wins from 9 across all competitions.

The latest of these came during the week, when a dominant first-half display saw City depart Old Trafford with a deserved 3-1 victory over Manchester United in the first-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final tie between the clubs.

And, when all was said and done at Villa Park this evening, the Manchester giants’ fine form continued.

A rampant City performance eventually saw the visitors put 6 past their hapless hosts, to move into 2nd in the Premier League table.

Aguero moving on up

As outlined above, meanwhile, City’s victory this evening proved particularly significant for one of the club’s star men.

The individual in question was Sergio Aguero.

Argentine hitman Aguero notched a hat-trick versus Villa, the first of which saw the former Atletico Madrid man equal Thierry Henry in the history books of the Premier League:

Aguero’s 2nd, meanwhile, saw him surpass Henry, and grab sole ownership of 5th on the list of all-time top Premier League goalscorers.

This also saw the 31-year-old secure his status as the top foreign goalscorer in the history of the division:

Incredibly, Aguero then went on to notch his hat-trick 10 minutes from time, a strike which saw the South American move level with Frank Lampard in 4th on the aforementioned list.

In addition, though, Aguero also surpassed Alan Shearer as the player with the most hat-tricks ever in the Premier League.

The City star has now racked up 12, to Shearer’s 11:
