Sergio Aguero expected to miss Man City’s CL quarter-final meeting with Lyon

The latest speculation in the media today suggests that Sergio Aguero is unlikely to be fit for the next round of Manchester City’s Champions League campaign.

City march on

Pep Guardiola’s men got their European campaign back underway last night.

The Sky Blues welcomed Spanish champions Real Madrid to the Etihad, for the 2nd-leg of the high-profile Champions League last-16 showdown between the clubs.

City headed into proceedings holding the advantage, on the back of a 2-1 win in the tie’s opener back in February.

And, when all was said and done in Manchester on Friday, the same result saw the Premier League giants book their spot in the competition’s quarter-finals.

Gabriel Jesus proved the star of the show, bagging a goal and assist, thanks in no small part to a pair of uncharacteristic mistakes on the part of Raphael Varane:

Aguero to miss out

City’s ousting of Real has since seen Guardiola’s men dealt what they will no doubt view as a very winnable last-8 meeting with Lyon, after the Ligue 1 outfit shocked Italian champions Juventus in their own last-16 tie.

The clash, set to take place a week from today, though, will likely see the Citizens once again forced to make do without one of the club’s star men.

Sergio Aguero of course missed out versus Real Madrid last night, as the Argentine continues to struggle with a knee problem.

And the latest word to have emerged online this afternoon suggests that Aguero is unlikely to return to fitness in time to face Lyon:
