Quotes emerging online direct from a Premier League club source have suggested that the English top-flight season is unlikely to be completed.
Football world hit hard
The worldwide COVID-19 (more commonly referred to as coronavirus) outbreak has of course been headline news across the globe of late.
The last 48 hours or so, though, have seen panic levels regarding the situation reach new heights altogether.
This has inevitably also had a major effect on the football calendar.
A rapid increase in cases across Europe first saw Italy come to the decision to shut down all sporting activities, including Serie A, for the time being.
This was followed by a series of high-profile European fixtures first being scheduled to go behind closed doors, before a complete postponement of both the Europa League and Champions League followed.
PL season under threat
Developments in England, meanwhile, have been rapid over the last 24 hours.
Up until last night, the latest round of Premier League fixtures were actually due to go ahead this weekend.
This, however, was before confirmation arrived that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had tested positive for COVID-19.
As a result, it came as little surprise when word was forthcoming this morning that Premier League officials had come to the decision to postpone all competitive fixtures until early next month.

If the latest word being put forth by certain Premier League higher-ups is to be believed, though, then the English top-flight getting back underway on the intended date of April 4th may be very, very wishful thinking.
As revealed by Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports News, one senior Premier League club source has this evening claimed that there is only a 25% chance of the season actually being played to completion.
In fact, the individual in question even went as far as to throw the beginning of the 2020/21 campaign into doubt:
‘I can’t see any chance we’ll be back in 3 weeks. This will go on for months. You even wonder about the start of next season. There are huge questions to answer. Does anybody get promoted or relegated?’
