Schalke announce signing of Everton’s JonJoe Kenny with brilliant South-Park themed Tweets

Both Everton and Schalke have this evening confirmed JonJoe Kenny’s surprise move to the latter on loan for the 2019/20 season.

Toffees’ starlet

Kenny, a 22-year-old right-back, came up through the youth ranks of Everton, before breaking into the club’s first-team setup for the first time in 2014.

The stopper, however, initially struggled for game-time, resulting in a pair of loan spells with Wigan and Oxford over the years that followed.

The serious injury picked up by first-choice Toffees’ right-full Seamus Coleman in 2017, though, soon saw Kenny presented with his first consistent chance to impress in an Everton jersey, with the English youth international having grasped the opportunity with both hands.

All told, across the 2017/18 season, Kenny appeared in half of the Merseysiders’ Premier League outings, 17 of which came in the form of starts.

Coleman’s return to full fitness, and subsequent return to form this past season, though, saw Kenny once again slip down the defensive pecking order at Goodison Park.

The no-nonsense defender did manage 8 league starts, but Marco Silva appeared to make it abundantly clear that Coleman will continue to act as his first-choice moving forward.

‘Oh my god! They signed Kenny!’

As such, with Kenny at a crucial point in his career in terms of development, it has since come as little surprise to learn that Everton have opted to loan out the 22-year-old.

As was made official this evening, in something of a surprise switch, Kenny has joined Bundesliga outfit Schalke for the 2019/20 campaign.

Schalke, meanwhile, have since also made Kenny’s arrival official, in brilliant fashion.

Putting their own twist on South Park’s famous ‘Oh my God, they killed Kenny!’ catchphrase, the German giants announced:
