Sanchez & Lingard among 5 players Man United could reportedly move on to fund Sancho swoop

Jadon Sancho

The latest word stemming from the English media suggests that Manchester United have identified a number of dead weight options in the club’s squad, who could be sold to fund a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

United rebuilding

Ahead of the opening of the delayed summer transfer window, Premier League giants Man United have been tipped as a potential landing spot for a whole host of star names.

On the back of the upturn in form enjoyed by the Red Devils following Bruno Fernandes’ January arrival, things are finally starting to look up at Old Trafford.

United’s FA Cup quarter-final downing of Norwich City yesterday evening saw them extend the club’s unbeaten streak to 14 games across all competitions.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co., meanwhile, appear to have a firm recruitment plan in place moving forward, which is set to see the Manchester powerhouse focus their attentions on signing and developing young talent, to surround high-profile names like the aforementioned Fernandes, Paul Pogba and David de Gea.

United clearout?

Amongst the players to have been most persistently linked with making the move to Old Trafford ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, thus far, has been Jadon Sancho.

Borussia Dortmund sensation Sancho has enjoyed another scintillating campaign, which has seen the English international rack up 20 goals and 20 assists across all competitions.

Crucially, Sancho would also fit in with the Red Devils’ focus on young British talent.

The one major stumbling block in not only United, but any club’s pursuit of the 20-year-old talent, however, is Dortmund’s asking price.

BVB are expected to demand a premium fee for their explosive young winger, with a price-tag of around £110 million having been touted.

As such, considering the current financial climate, the only way in which Manchester United could hope to scrape together such a sum would be to part with a number of players first.

And, as outlined above, the members of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad who look set to be in the firing line have already been identified.

As per a report from the Mirror, the Red Devils are ready to move all of Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Andreas Pereira, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling on this summer.

It is widely agreed that Sanchez, considering form and wages, will likely be the most difficult for whom to find a potential buyer, but all of the remaining quartet are expected to generate at least some form of interest.

It is also noted, meanwhile, that United remain ‘desperate’ to land Sancho ahead of next season.
