Samuel Umtiti & David Alaba: Arsenal’s summer shortlist

Arsenal planning summer overhaul

Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti and Bayern Munich’s David Alaba are two players Arsenal are targeting ahead of another summer overhaul under Unai Emery.

The Gunners have entered a new era following Arsene Wenger’s departure at the end of last season.

After stalling for a few seasons, Arsenal appointed Unai Emery in hope of making the Gunners a title challenger once again.

While Emery’s first summer transfer window resulted in a few successful moves, the new group of players were unable to mount a title charge this campaign.

Though, Arsenal are now being linked with two players who could turn them into league contenders.

Samuel Umtiti & David Alaba to the Emirates

Those two players are Samuel Umtiti and David Alaba.

According to the Independent, Umtiti and Alaba are ‘two main names’ on Arsenal’s summer shortlist.

Their report claims: ‘The club want to bring in up to five signings in the close-season to set up Unai Emery for a title challenge, and the feeling is deals can be done for both [Umtiti and Alaba], who would represent significant coups.’

Starting off with Umtiti, the Frenchman has grown into one of the best central defenders in Europe over the past few seasons.

While it is unlikely that Barcelona would let Umtiti leave, Matthijs de Ligt’s arrival could change that.

Alaba, meanwhile, suggested last week that he would be open to an Arsenal move.

The defender admitted that if he left Bayern he’d be open to one of ‘the big clubs’ in the Premier League before admitting he’s an Arsenal fan.

Should Arsenal complete deals for both Umtiti and Alaba they would move one step closer to being title contenders again.
