Salty Mourinho’s new dig at Man United fans in the Benfica programme

Jose Mourinho v Man United fans

For reasons only known to Jose Mourinho, the Special One has been provoking Man United fans ever since the full time whistle blew against Spurs on Saturday.

Prior to Tuesday, Mourinho had slammed United’s fans on two separate occasions since Spurs.

Mourinho criticised United’s fans for their treatment of Romelu Lukaku.

During a post match interview with MUTV, the Special One said:

I would like the supporters to explain to me why they don’t support him so much because he gives everything and I think it is not fair when scoring the goal or not scoring the goal makes the whole difference.

I don’t think it is fair at all. So I’m a bit disappointed – but not with him. With him very pleased.

For the record, Lukaku has failed to score in his last five Man United matches.

Doubles down on Lukaku comments

Then, on Monday in his presser before the Benfica match in the Champions League, Mourinho doubled down.

The Special One labelled Lukaku “untouchable” as he again called out United’s fans:

The fans are the fans and I also told that the fans paid their ticket. They are free to express themselves the way they want to express.

But my job is to protect my players and I think Romelu is one of the players that should be untouchable in terms of the respect from everyone.

Mourinho stays salty in the Benfica programme

United are now within touching distance of being in the Champions League last 16.

Manchester United will qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League if they beat Benfica and CSKA Moscow fail to beat Basel.

Ahead of the game, Mourinho has penned his usual piece in the club’s programme, ‘United Review’.

The standout line in Mourinho’s article read: “I hope that you enjoy the game more than some of you did against Tottenham.”
