Salomon Rondon in tears at Everton

Salomon Rondon to Newcastle is back on

The Mirror is today reporting that Newcastle are back in talks with West Brom over the signing of Salomon Rondon.

Rondon arrived at West Brom in the summer of 2015 for a fee in the region of £15 million from Russian side Zenit.

Since arriving from Zenit Rondon has proven to be a consistent goal scorer for the Baggies. In the 2015/16 season, he scored a respectable nine goals in 34 league games, as well as bagging three assists.

In the 2016/17 season, he managed eight league goals and two assists. And this past season he scored seven and assisted three in the league for West Brom.

While Rondon isn’t the highest scoring striker in the league, his three seasons at West Brom have proven he can score goals consistently. Even for a side like West Brom who have never exactly been known to be an attacking side. Especially this season when they were relegated after scoring just 31 goals in 38 Premier League games.

A super season

When Newcastle United won promotion to the Premier League in 2016/17, many people believed they would struggle to stay up due to the lack of money spent on their squad.

On the surface, Newcastle do not exactly seem blessed with top Premier League talents. However, Rafa Benitez was able to guide what is quite an average Newcastle side to a 10th place finish in the Premier League.

A big part of why Newcastle were able to finish so high in the table was due to the performances of club captain Jamal Lascelles and a few other key players.

Now, however, given Newcastle finished in an impressive 10th place last season, they will need to bring in a few fresh faces in order to improve on their 2017/18 season and signing Rondon would go some way to doing that.
