Sadio Mane beats Mo Salah to Liverpool award

Sadio Mane has this afternoon been named the winner of the award for September Player of the Month at Premier League champions Liverpool.

Up and down Reds

Jurgen Klopp’s men have of course endured a somewhat hit-and-miss start to the defence of their title.

The Reds downed Leeds in their season opener, albeit in altogether unconvincing fashion.

This was followed by a glimpse of the dominant Liverpool of last season over the weeks that followed, though, as the Merseysiders secured impressive victories over both Chelsea and Arsenal.

It was the champions’ last outing, however, which has since seen many suggest that Liverpool may in fact be there for the taking over the campaign ahead.

A trip to Villa Park prior to the international break saw Klopp’s men, incredibly, downed by 7 goals to 2.

Mane crowned

As such, evidently, a number of Liverpool’s stars have been far from their best to start out the season.

One individual who continued to fire on all cylinders, in September at least, however, was Sadio Mane.

Senegalese wide-man Mane has notched 3 goals in his first 3 Premier League appearances in 2020/21, including a match-winning brace versus Chelsea.

He was also not part of the group to have been torn apart by Aston Villa, having missed out due to Covid-19.

And, as outlined above, Mane’s continued excellence has not gone at all unnoticed on the part of the Reds faithful.

In a post across the club’s social media platforms this afternoon, Liverpool confirmed that their attacking star has bagged the award for the September Player of the Month.

Mane beat out competition from fellow winger Mohamed Salah, who finished 2nd in voting, to secure his latest prize:
