In a bizarre situation, Liverpool’s Sadio Mane almost didn’t get his match ball for scoring a Champions League hat-trick against Porto on Wednesday.
The Anfield forward impressed on the night and scored three goals in what was eventually a route against the Portuguese side.
The game ended 5-0 to the Reds with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino also getting in on the goalscoring act.
Though, it was Sadio Mane who stole the headlines but he could have had it all taken away from him at the end of the game!
That is because one of the ball boys took the match ball off the pitch, ready to give back to Porto as if it was a standard ball.
Though, he had simply forgotten that Sadio had scored a hat-trick and it took Mane’s teammate Andy Robertson for him to get it back.
The Scotsman saw the ball being taken away and had to run after it but thankfully he was able to catch up before Sadio got upset!
“I had to go running after the ball boy for his ball at the end – he was nearly upset! Luckily, I managed to get it. They were three class finishes from him,” the left-back told Liverpoolfc.com.
“Mo and Bobby have stolen the headlines in the last couple of weeks. But Sadio is on my side [of the pitch] and he is a workhouse, he works so hard. He took the limelight and got his three goals.”
One reason Mane could have done so well last night was down to some advice from Jamie Carragher.
The Liverpool legend told the forward one thing at half-time before he went on to complete his hat-trick.
