Sacking on the horizon? Major development in Rafael Benitez’s Everton stint

Rafa Benitez lost his job at Everton on Sunday night

A major development towards the potential dismissal of Everton boss Rafael Benitez has been confirmed late on Friday evening.

Blues in free fall

The subject of the hotseat at Goodison Park has of course proven headline news in the media over recent weeks.

This comes with Everton, on the back of an altogether encouraging opening to the campaign, now in the midst of nothing short of a free fall.

The Toffees have not secured a 3-point haul in the Premier League since late September, with six of the club’s last eight outings having culminated in defeat.

The latest of these came on Wednesday night, when, amid frankly alarming scenes, Everton were put to the sword by four goals to one in a Merseyside Derby showdown with Liverpool.

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear that speculation surrounding Benitez’s position on the bench at Goodison has begun to mount.

The Blues faithful, for one, have not been shy in making their demands for an immediate change clear, with the Spaniard’s summer arrival having of course been met by a heavy backlash, owing to Benitez’s Liverpool past.

Time up for Rafa?

And, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the English media on Friday evening is anything to go by, then those behind the viral #BenitezOut movement could soon have their prayers answered.

This comes on the back of confirmation that an ’emergency meeting’ has been called by the Everton hierarchy, to discuss the club’s concerning spell of recent form.

As per a report from John Cross of The Mirror, Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright called those in a position of power at the club to Finch Farm on Friday, with the subject of Benitez’s future ‘high on the agenda’.

Director of Football Marcel Brands has already made his way back to Merseyside from the Netherlands, with owner Farhad Moshiri expected to arrive from the United States over the course of the weekend.

Moshiri, in turn, will hold discussions with Benitez himself, as the latest managerial casualty of the Premier League campaign inches ever closer.
