Ryan Fraser to Liverpool rumours definitively shut down

Reports suggesting that European champions Liverpool were closing on a January deal for Bournemouth star Ryan Fraser have been firmly rejected.

Bournemouth stint

25-year-old winger Fraser has been plying his trade at the Vitality Stadium since 2013, when he arrived from Aberdeen.

And, after playing a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2016, the Scot has since gone from strength to strength.

It was his stellar production last season, though, which saw many begin to stand up and take notice of Fraser’s talents.

Across appearances in all 38 of Bournemouth’s league fixtures (35 starts), the pacy wide-man directly contributed to 21 goals.

His haul of 14 assists, meanwhile, proved the 2nd-highest total in the English top-flight, behind only Eden Hazard.

And, though, the early months of the new campaign have not proven quite as fruitful for the 11-time capped Scottish international, Fraser nevertheless remains an integral member of Eddie Howe’s attack.

Liverpool links

As such, yesterday’s intense rumours that Fraser could soon be on his way out of the club no doubt came as a major source of concern for fans of the Cherries.

A report from TalkSport suggested that the Aberdeen youth product was closing on a January Anfield switch.

It was claimed that Liverpool were in ‘advanced talks’ with Bournemouth over a winter deal for Fraser, with the winger’s contract at the Vitality set to expire next summer.

Further details suggested that Harry Wilson, currently on loan with the Cherries from Liverpool, may have been included as part of any agreement.

‘No truth’

TalkSport’s claims, however, have since been definitively shut down.

First, the reliable James Pearce revealed sources had informed him that reports of a Fraser move to Merseyside were false:

And Peter Rutzler of the Athletic has since followed suit.

Rutzler provides further detail, assuring that Bournemouth are not currently looking to sell Fraser.

Such claims, meanwhile, would also suggest that the Vitality outfit remain hopeful of tying their star wide-man down to a new deal.
