Chelsea winger Willian has today taken to social media to refute rumours that he is set for a return to Brazil with Palmeiras.
Dip in form
Gifted wide-man Willian has been with Chelsea since arriving at the club from Anzhi Makhachkala in the summer of 2013, going on to establish himself as a key contributor to the Blues’ successes over the last 4 seasons.
However, the 29-year-old has come in for heavy criticism from large sections of the club’s supporters for his performances this season, with many calling for the South American to be moved on upon the opening of the January transfer window.
Old Trafford bound?
This has led to heavy links between Willian and Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho, who managed the Brazilian international for two seasons at Stamford Bridge, said to be a huge admirer of the talents of his former charge.
The Portuguese tactician has revitalised the career of midfielder Nemanja Matic after signing the Serbian from Chelsea during the summer, and reportedly feels as though he could do the same for Willian.
However, reports stemming from Willian’s home country of Brazil last night claimed that the 49-time capped international was in fact close to agreeing a loan move to Brasileiro outfit Palmeiras, based on the fact that the club could offer him regular playing time ahead of next year’s World Cup.
But the Corinthians youth product has today moved to definitively dispel such rumours, insisting that he has no plans to return to Brazil for the time being.
Oi Sandro, tudo bem? Desculpe, mas não estou negociando com o Palmeiras e meu empresário não recebeu nenhum contato do clube. Não tenho nenhum plano de voltar ao Brasil nesse momento. Um abraço!
