Ruben Loftus-Cheek agrees new long-term deal at Chelsea

Ruben Loftus-Cheek set to remain at Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has reportedly agreed a new £150,000-a-week long-term contract to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Loftus-Cheek burst onto the scene a few years ago now, with a loan spell at Crystal Palace during the 2017/18 season having helped him to announce himself onto the Premier League stage.

He then returned to Chelsea in the hope of first-team football, and while he was still not a regular starter, he appeared 40 times last season.

Unfortunately, Loftus-Cheek was out of contention for the Europa League final, after suffering a serious injury in an end-of-season friendly.

Despite his injury, Loftus-Cheek is set to be rewarded with a new deal at Chelsea.

Loftus-Cheek set for big role under Lampard

According to the Telegraph, ‘Chelsea have agreed a new long-term contract with Ruben Loftus-Cheek that will provide head coach Frank Lampard with an immediate boost to his reign.’

Their report also claims that Loftus-Cheek’s new deal will be worth £150,000-a-week, and should run for five years.

That’s a big upgrade over his previous deal, which the Telegraph report was worth £60,000-a-week.

Despite his injury meaning that Loftus-Cheek might not play again in 2019, their report adds that ‘Chelsea were determined to secure Loftus-Cheek to a new agreement.’

With Frank Lampard likely to be the next Chelsea boss, there could be a shift towards young talent.

That idea is backed up by the Telegraph.

They claim that ‘Lampard plans to make Loftus-Cheek one of his key players in midfield once the 23-year-old returns to fitness’.
