Roy Hodgson gives update on Dominic Solanke transfer after Chelsea

Crystal Palace 0 Chelsea 1

Crystal Palace hosted Chelsea in Sunday’s early kickoff as they looked to continue their decent run of form.

Palace had not lost any of their last three and caused a huge upset as they beat Manchester City 3-2.

However, Crystal Palace’s biggest problem this season has been their lack of goals.

Prior to the Chelsea game, Palace had scored just 17 goals in 19 games.

They had also been without Christian Benteke for much of the season and have often been forced to play Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend up top.

Palace’s lack of a goalscorer was evident in their last game vs Cardiff.

Palace drew 0-0 with the newly-promoted side whose away record has been awful this season.

The Eagles would have over 30 goal attempts at home to Cardiff but fail to score a single goal.

Their lack of killer instinct up top was once again on display vs Chelsea.

Palace had just four shots and not a single one was on target.

Hodgson provides Solanke transfer update

With the January window just around the corner is clear Palace need to bring a centre-forward in.

The main striker Palace have been linked with is Dominic Solanke.

Solanke is currently playing for Liverpool but has found his first-team chances somewhat limited since making the switch from Chelsea.

However, Solanke has shown his quality at under-23 and under-21 level for Liverpool and England.

As a result, he would likely make a decent signing for Palace.

Roy Hodgson also seems to think so as he gave this update on Solanke after their loss to Chelsea:

“If Steve has mentioned that then it’s obviously not a secret that he’s [Solanke] a target of ours, someone we’d like to have.

“What would he do for us? Well he’d provide the attacking threat that a good centre forward should provide.

“We have someone who is the profile we’re looking for and has the ability we’re looking for which, once again today, I thought we were lacking.”
