Everyone could see what incensed Wayne Rooney was shouting after substitution vs Liverpool

Viewers of this afternoon’s clash between Everton and Liverpool have taken to social media to make clear their opinions on what Wayne Rooney shouted in the direction of his side’s coaching staff after being substituted during the second-half.

Matchup

The two Merseyside clubs went head to head in today’s early kick-off, with hosts Everton having come into proceedings in 9th-place in the Premier League table.

The Toffees fell to a disappointing 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Manchester City in their last outing, having picked up consecutive victories over Brighton and Stoke City in their two previous fixtures.

Liverpool, meanwhile, shocked the masses with a stunning 3-0 win over Premier League champions-elect Manchester City in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Wednesday night, courtesy of a blitzing opening half-hour at Anfield.

Goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane did the damage on the night, with the Reds set to travel to the Etihad next week as clear favourites to advance to the semi-finals of Europe’s top-tier competition.

The first-half at Goodison Park this afternoon saw clear-cut chances few and far between, with the best opportunity having fallen to Liverpool youngster Dominic Solanke 6 yards out, only for the striker to be denied by a reaction stop from Jordan Pickford.

Pickford also made an excellent stop from a James Milner cross-shot, while Loris Karius pulled off the save off the half from a whipped Yannick Bolasie strike from the edge of the box.

Not happy

The early goings following the interval saw little change, with both sides, for the most-part, cancelling each other out.

However, there was a flashpoint, albeit on the sideline, just before the hour mark, when Wayne Rooney was hauled off by Everton boss Sam Allardyce to be replaced by Idrissa Gueye.

Rooney, who could immediately be seen to be upset upon his number being displayed across the fourth official’s board, angrily grabbed his jacket as he made his way to the bench, before clearly shouting something in the direction of his side’s coaching staff.

And viewers of the incident were in no two minds regarding what the Manchester United legend had shouted, as highlighted below:

The majority of the big chances over the last half-hour fell to Everton, with Cenk Tosun having gone close on a couple of occasions, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin having also conspired to put a gilt-edged opportunity wide of Loris Karius’ far post in the 88th-minute.

As such, both sides had to make do with a point in the first of today’s two Premier League derbies.
