Roma confirm star player will be out for 6-8 months


Roma have confirmed that defender Alessandro Florenzi has torn his Cruciate ligament having had problems with injury since October.

The defender has suffered a recurrence of the injury and scans have confirmed that, with Roma issuing the statement on their website.

Scans came back this morning and the player will undergoe surgery this evening in an attempt to repair the ruptured ligament.

The player will now miss the rest of the season and may miss the beginning of next season.

Florenzi first injured the knee back in October before having a recurrence.

Having impressed last season, the player has only been able to make nine apperances for the club so far this season.

Roma vying for top spot

The Italian giants are looking to catch Juventus at the top of the table but are currently seven points off their competitors.

Roma will be buoyed by their 4-0 win over Villareal on Thursday, almost guarenteeing them qualification to the next round.

They will face Torino at the weekend as they look to keep pace with their rivals who face Palermo.
