Rodgers provides update on Leicester trio – including Harvey Barnes – ahead of Southampton

Leicester City vs Southampton

Leicester City face off with Southampton at Wembley this weekend in an FA Cup semi-final clash.

To make it to the last four, Leicester saw off Stoke, Brentford, Brighton and Manchester United.

The Saints, meanwhile, had a slightly easier route, beating Shrewsbury, Arsenal, Wolves and Bournemouth in the quarter-finals.

The Foxes head into the tie having lost their last two in the Premier League and having been knocked out of the Europa League.

Southampton, though, have been in even more patchy form of late, with this tie no doubt set to be a fairly unpredictable affair.

And if Leicester can make it past Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, Leicester should have a real shot at securing their first piece of silverware under the Northern Irishman, with Brendan Rodgers and co. having already beaten both Manchester City and Chelsea – who are of course fighting it out in the remaining semi-final tie – in the league this term.

Leicester team news

Ahead of their meeting at Wembley, Brendan Rodgers spoke to the media on Friday.

When doing so, the Northern Irishman provided updates on three players.

Firstly, Rodgers confirmed that Caglar Soyuncu is fine and ready to play:

“He’s absolutely fine. He’s looked terrific in training this week, so he’s available and ready to play.”

Rodgers also stated that Cengiz Under is available and trained with the squad this week:

“Cengo will be available. He’s trained with the squad this week, so that’s really good news.”

And finally, the Leicester boss had this to say on long-term absentee Harvey Barnes:

“Harvey’s still a number of weeks away. We’re hoping in the next couple of weeks he can get out onto the field. He’s progressing really well, but he’s certainly not ready for this weekend.”
