Rodgers provides injury updates on Ndidi, Pereira & more ahead of Liverpool vs Leicester

Liverpool vs Leicester

Sunday’s marquee Premier League tie will see Liverpool play host to Leicester.

And, though it remains only early in the season, the clash could go on to prove significant when it comes to the 2020/21 title race.

Ahead of the English top-flight’s return this weekend, it was Leicester who sat pretty atop the table, with 18 points from eight games.

Liverpool, meanwhile, were hot on their heels in 3rd.

The Reds, though, are set to be without all of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold on Sunday.

Latest Leicester team news

Whilst it is Liverpool’s injury woes which are of course currently grabbing the headlines, it is worth noting that Leicester have been forced to deal with a number of issues of their own of late, too.

And, on Friday, Brendan Rodgers provided updates on several of his side’s sidelined stars.

First, the Leicester boss confirmed that Ricardo Pereira, who has been injured since last season, is back in first-team training, and progressing ‘really well’:

“Ricardo’s in training with the group, which is great news, and he’ll most probably play in a reserve game next week. He’s progressing really well.”

Rodgers went on to reveal that both Wilfred Ndidi and Caglar Soyuncu are also making steady progress, but remain ‘several weeks’ from a return to the pitch:

“Wilf is out on the field. He still has a number of weeks to go, but he’s progressing well. Söyüncü, likewise, is maybe a few weeks away, but training with the squad.

Timothy Castagne, on the other hand, is back fit:

“Timothy Castagne’s back in again, which is great news, and Wesley Fofana will be fine, so we’re slowly starting to get our players back.”
