Roberto Martinez’s shock Swansea return

Roberto Martinez & Swansea

A big story has been broken by Wales Online on Saturday night.

Swansea City are currently managerless following the sacking of Paul Clement last week.

Leo Britton is the caretaker player-manager in the interim, however he’s already made it clear he doesn’t want the job.

Many have commented that Swansea have gone from being a  well run club with a football ethos under managers Brendan Rodgers, Michael Laudrup and Roberto Martinez, to now being something of a basket case.

But, the big rumour on Saturday is that Swansea are courting Roberto Martinez for a shock Liberty Stadium return.

Belgium & World Cup

Martinez is the current Belgium national team boss.

Belgium qualified for the 2018 World Cup where they’ll face Panama, Tunisia and England in the groups.

What seems clear is that Martinez will not walk out on Belgium for Swansea before the World Cup. Wales Online report:

Swansea City have approached former hero Roberto Martinez about a shock Liberty Stadium return.

Martinez would only consider coming back to South Wales once he has led Belgium through the 2018 finals in Russia.

Swansea could name an interim manager before making a long-term appointment in the summer.

It’s unclear who would take over the Swansea post until the end of the season.

And would Martinez be interested in Swansea if they are in the Championship next season?

Swansea 1 – Crystal Palace 1

Swansea picked up a point in a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

The Eagles took the lead from the penalty spot.

With no Christian Benteke on the pitch, Luka Milivojevic broke the deadlock in the 59th minute.

But Britton recorded his first Premier League point in the dugout when Jordan Ayew levelled 13 minutes from time.

Despite the point, Swansea have slipped to the bottom of the table.
