Robert Pires’ advice to Arsenal over signing Ismaila Sarr

Arsenal eyeing Sarr

Over the last week or so, it is being reported by several outlets in the British media that Arsenal are interested in signing Ismaila Sarr of Rennes.

The Gunners are said to have held preliminary talks with Rennes for Sarr after they lost 3-1 to Rennes in the first leg of their Europa League tie.

Sarr was a key reason why Arsenal lost the first leg of said tie with the winger scoring one of Rennes’ three goals that night.

Luckily for Arsenal, Sarr was much quieter in the second leg with Arsenal coming away 3-0 winners.

Pires on if Arsenal should sign Sarr

Sarr made the move to Rennes in July of 2017 from FC Metz for a fee of around £17m.

Since joining Rennes, Sarr has gone on to make 65 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit.

In those 65 games, Sarr has scored 15 and assisted 16. He is naturally a right winger but he can play all across the front three.

Former Arsenal and France winger Robert Pires has now had his say on whether the North London club should continue to peruse Sarr.

Speaking to Sport24 about Sarr, Pires stated:

“It would not hurt Arsenal to sign him, but I do not know his price [laughs].

“He has the profile to evolve at the Gunners. He would adapt quickly to the way of play wanted by Unai Emery.” As quoted by ESPN.
